Winter 2025/26 Prayer & Newsletter

Dear Friends,

Psalm 126:3 says, “The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.” This year has been full of great things, and we wanted to use our last newsletter of the year to share these with you. May each story cause you to praise the Lord on our behalf, and rejoice with us!

Good News Clubs

Good Attendances
During a average school year, our GNC teachers in the Lake Shore school district know by the first Club day how many students will be attending that year. One or two more kids may trickle in during the first few weeks, but it is unusual. This year, the unusual has become the norm.
Almost every week we are contacted by one of Lake Shore’s three elementary schools, saying there’s a new student who wants to join GNC. The students who are already attending are inviting their friends, and these kids don’t want to miss out on the good time. As of Christmas break, there are 60 students registered in these three schools. At AJ Schmidt Elementary, 12% of the student body has signed up!

At Highgate Heights Elementary in Buffalo, the lead GNC teacher is also a teacher in the school, and is able to incorporate GNC into the after-school care program. This year she was told that the program was restructuring, and only a fraction of the students would be eligible to attend. She wondered if she would have any students in her Club, but praised the Lord for the few kids who attended the first week. About a month later, she reported that she is now up to nine precious children in her Club! Some of these kids are also asking for their own Bibles!

Salvations
Several children have made professions of faith at Good News Clubs already this school year. Here is just one story….

J. is only in second grade, but already has a reputation of being a difficult child. When the GNC teacher saw his name on the sign up list, she knew she’d have her hands full. Thankfully, the first few weeks passed without any major problems, and J. actually seemed to enjoy Club.

About a month in, however, when the GNC teachers checked in at the school office, there was J., sitting in a chair just outside the principal’s office. He made eye contact with the GNC teacher, then put his head down.

The principal walked out and spoke to the teacher, “Our friend here has made some bad choices today, which have hurt people. I can call his mom to send him home, unless you want him to stay?” The teacher wanted to say “Call his mom,” but knew that Jesus died for this little boy, and she had to show His love. “We want him!” she decided.

The Bible lesson that day “happened” (but we know that God puts these things together) to be about the crucifixion of Jesus. One of the lesson pictures showed an image of Christ on the cross, next to a silhouette of a person. A dirty arrow showed that Jesus took the person’s sin, and a clean arrow showed that the person received Christ’s righteousness.

The teacher was talking, but J. wasn’t listening. He was intently studying the flashcard. In the middle of the teacher’s sentence, J. blurted out, “I need that! How can I get that?”

The teacher quickly finished the lesson, so she could talk to J. He prayed right there to receive Jesus as his Savior!

Church Growth

E., a 7-year old Good News Club girl, so impressed her parents with the change they saw in her, that the parents wanted to know what she was learning. They decided to attend the sponsor church’s Sunday morning service. They brought E. and their two older children, one a boy who had attended GNC a few years prior, and the other a teenage daughter. It was E.’s first time ever in a church!

The parents loved the church so much they promised to attend the mid-week prayer service, which they did, and the whole family has been regularly attending the church ever since.

Christmas Party Club

Last school year, God opened an amazing door for us to minister at a transitional housing facility. Some of our volunteers went there each week to host a Good News Club in the lobby for any children who wanted to attend (and their parents, grandparents, hotel employees, random people walking in and out….). It was chaotic but fun, and we were so grateful for the opportunity to minister to them. Over the summer, the hotel emptied out, as the residents were moved into more permanent housing.

This fall, it began to fill back up, and the lead teacher wanted to get back in there. She visited a few times, met some of the new residents who had children, and got enough support to plan a Christmas Party Club.  The parents she had met helped pass out invitations to the approximately 40 children who are living in this hotel/housing facility. She purchased small gifts for all the children, stocked up on snacks, and enlisted a few others to help her.

Just two days before Christmas at least 25 children (along with many of their relatives) attended the “Birthday Party for Jesus”. Everyone who came heard the Christmas story, and what Jesus’ birth means to us. Most of these kids were unchurched – none of them knew the words to “Away in a Manger.” The teachers were able to pray with a few children, though many of them were hearing the gospel for the very first time.

The sweetest moment for the lead teacher came at the end of the night when a mom hugged her and cried. This mom has grown up in church but had strayed far from God. She thanked our group again and again for coming, and asked for prayers for herself and her four-year-old son. They have nothing to their name, but she admitted that her greatest need was to get back to Jesus.

Summer Ministry

5-Day Clubs
We had three “5-Day Clubs” this summer, one each in Angola, West Falls, and Orchard Park. About 40 children attended between the three locations, and at least six made professions of faith.

Party Clubs
One church hosted a Party Club, and had 12 children attend, and several parents and grandparents. Keep reading for a testimony from that church.
Another church held five Party Clubs around Buffalo. They estimate that 50+ kids came, including a few who have since attended their church.

Summer Good News Club
A school Good News Club teacher gained permission from her local library to host a GNC there this summer. They met five times and had eight children attend. This opportunity came up suddenly, as we mentioned in our last newsletter, and we are so thankful that this teacher took advantage of it.

Testimonies from Summer

On the last day of Good News Club this past May, the teacher invited all the students to a summer “5-Day Club” at her house that July. One of the GNC girls came the first day, and on the second day came back with three friends. Two of those friends put their faith in Jesus for salvation.
Praise the Lord for this double testimony – that kids were saved, and that a Good News Club student is reaching her friends for Christ!

A local church used the CEF curriculum to host a 1-Day Party Club around Independence Day. Their event was attended by grandparents who had just gained custody of their
4-year-old grandson. Though not affiliated with any church, these grandparents were looking for free activities for kids, so decided to bring him to the Party Club. All 3 were warmly welcomed, and the little boy had a great time.
The next day, the grandma contacted the pastor to ask for prayers, as her daughter (the little boy’s mother) had passed away suddenly the night before. The pastor was able to minister to them in their time of grief, and the family has been receptive to the gospel.
Praise the Lord that they decided to hold a Party Club during a busy holiday time, and that this family came. Pray they come to Christ.

Good News Clubs

By the time you read this, we will have three after-school Good News Club up and running for elementary students, one starting in a few days, and a final club starting in November. If you have an elementary student in Blasdell, Evans, Hamburg, or in the Highgate Heights Public School, please consider sending them to a Good News Club!

Special Prayer Request:

We would like to enlist your prayer help for someone to lead a Bible club at the Lake Shore Middle School. There used to be a club in that school before Covid, and we recently found out that the door is still open. The principal herself has said we are welcome to come in as part of the school’s “Tenth Period.” It would be a fast club – 2:30pm-3:00pm one day per week.

There are three elementary schools in this district that funnel up to the Middle School. That means there are kids who have attended GNCs for several years who are wiling to form a core group in the middle school. We believe that God has opened this door for us. We also believe that He is calling someone to step through this door and lead the club. Some people have offered to help, or to lead on a temporary basis, but a club like this needs a consistent teacher. Will you pray with us that God will work in that person’s heart?

This club would use the CEF “Junior Youth Challenge” Curriculum, which would be provided. Training is also available.

Christmas Party Clubs

The Christmas season will soon be here, bringing us a great opportunity to share the Reason for the season. CEF has produced several “Christmas Party Clubs” to help share the story of Christmas with the children around us. In fact, this is one of their biggest outreach programs of the year – last year these “CPC”s reached over 10 million children globally!

A CPC can be done as a stand-alone event in a home, church, or school. It can also be incorporated into a Sunday School class or other children’s ministry. It can last 1-2 hours, depending on what the leader wants.

We at CEF of GBA have committed to purchasing the curriculum for anyone who wants to host a Christmas Party Club, and can also provide training in how to run this kind of club (although it is quite self-explanatory). Please reach out to us if you are interested.

Bi-Weekly Prayer Email

In September we started to send out prayer request emails every other week. We realized that a quarterly newsletter was not sufficient to enlist the prayer that we need. Some situations come up quickly, and prayer can’t wait! Each email contains 3-4 requests for the next 2 weeks, and also the answers to the requests from the previous email. Will you join us in praying more often for the kids of WNY? Send us your email address!

Special Needs GNC

In our last newsletter, we highlighted a dear sister named Monique Lindsey, who had been a missionary to those with special needs in West Africa, until she received a cancer diagnosis. While undergoing chemo and radiation at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Monique started a Good News Club for people with special needs in Buffalo.

Monique did pass away since our last newsletter, and is now enjoying perfect health in Heaven. We are grateful for her example of service to the Lord, even in the darkest days of her life.

Hotel Club

The transitional housing facility where we held weekly GNCs closed down this past spring, and the residents were moved to other locations. We are so thankful that the Lord gave us this brief opportunity to minister. It was impossible to keep records, but we estimate that about 60 people heard the gospel – this includes children, teen siblings, parents/guardians, hotel staff, and even random people just hanging out in the lobby 🙂

The GNC teachers of this club are not letting this ministry die. They have been in contact with people in charge, and are trying to find a new location to minister. They have heard that several of the people who lived in this facility were moved to a hotel near the Buffalo Airport. May the Lord gives us favor to get in there with the Gospel. Many of these families are in crisis, and the solution is Jesus Christ.

Appreciation Dinner

Our second annual “GNC Worker Appreciation Dinner” was held on Friday, June 6. After a delicious meal, Good News Club teachers were asked to share testimonies of what had happened in their clubs during that school year. Here are some recaps:

· The Blasdell Elementary School club had no students last year, but the head GNC teacher faithfully prayed in the school library each week. This year, she decided to move the club off school property and into her church, which is just a few blocks from the school. Three children attended, and two of them professed faith in Jesus Christ for their salvation.

· One of the Lake Shore GNC teachers, who is legally blind, was looking for a way he could serve the Lord with his physical limitations. He praised the Lord for this opportunity to minister inside the schools, and for the other GNC teachers who are willing to give him rides to and from the schools each week. The other teachers at the club told how this man is a great influence on the children who attend.

· A Lake Shore bus driver told how he often overhears kids who attend GNC tell their friends on the bus what they have learned in class, and even share the gospel.

· One boy didn’t want to attend the AJ Schmidt club at the beginning of the year, and had a bad attitude. He kept coming though, and finally understood the gospel and trusted Christ as Savior. His whole attitude changed, and he finished the school year as one of their best students.

· A few children from the same family attended GNC at Cloverbank Elementary a few years ago, put their faith in Christ, and started attending the sponsor church. They brought more and more family members, and now 11 people from this family attend the church. This past school year, two of these girls were old enough to become helpers back at the Clover-bank Good News Club.

Spring 2025 Prayer & Newsletter

Happy Spring, Friends and Supporters!

Here are some updates about the Good News Clubs we facilitate in public schools, transitional housing, and in a day-training program for those with special needs. We have also included a “Save the Date” for a Chicken Barbeque on May 31, and two more ways you can be involved in CEF of GBA: 5-Day Clubs and our developing Prayer Team.

Prayer requests are listed throughout. As always, we are grateful for your financial and prayer support.

Thank you, CEF of GBA

Good News Clubs

We praise the Lord for seven public school Good News Clubs in four school districts! About 100 children attend these weekly Clubs. Some are small with just one or two students; others have 25. Some have two dedicated teachers, others have a rotation of five or six teachers. Some Clubs meet right in the school, immediately upon dismissal; others have to wait a few hours past the closing bell to gather. One Club meets off-site, at a nearby church. Some are warmly welcomed by school administration; others feel hostility and face an uncertain future.

In Matthew 18:20, Jesus Christ said, “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” One chapter later, in Matthew 19:14, He said, “Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”

We believe that every time a Club meets, Jesus Christ is present, and is showing His love to these precious little children. Each child has an eternal soul, and God wants each to spend eternity with Him in Heaven. He also wants each to have a relationship with Him on earth, and follow His extraordinary plan for their lives.

As the school year winds down, please pray for the GNC students that have not yet put their faith in Christ alone for salvation. Please especially pray for those in 5th grade, as they will move on to Middle School next year, and our chance to influence them will probably end. (Except in Buffalo Public Schools, where they will stay through Grade 8.)

Pray for the salvation of all our Good News Club students.

Hotel Club

We continue to host a weekly Good News Club in a transitional housing unit in Hamburg NY. Several times we have heard rumors that this facility is closing, but every Tuesday that we’ve shown up, kids have attended our Clubs! The attendance ranges from  4 to 30 kids each week, and there is almost always a parent, teenage brother/sister, or other adult present, too.

Since our attendance fluctuates so often, these meetings are not conventional “Good News Clubs” – they are more of a weekly CEF “Party Club”. We have crafts and balloon animals and prizes and try to make sure the kids are having fun as well as learning. Many children that attended our Clubs at the beginning of the school year have already moved on to more permanent housing.

We PRAISE THE LORD for this brief chance to influence these precious souls for Jesus! Several have made professions of faith, others are getting close! We will keep walking through this door, as long as it is open.

Pray for our Hotel Club attenders to be saved, and learn truths that will help them in their lives. Pray for this facility to stay open so we can continue to teach there.

Special Needs Bible Group

Our dear sister in the Lord, Monique Lindsey, was a missionary to those with special needs in Liberia, West Africa, until she was diagnosed with cancer in late 2023. She then returned to Western New York and began treatment at Roswell Park. She still wanted to continue her work with special needs people, and gives us this report:

Aspire of WNY runs a day-training program at the Tri-Main Building in Buffalo for individuals over 18 years old. They meet there and learn daily living skills. Aspire runs this and other centers in the Western NY area.

About a year ago, I approached them with adding a Bible study group and language training. It is offered to any who wish to join with us. On average, we have about 12 members, but the group is growing. We have a mixed group of individuals. Some have cerebral palsy, blindness, deafness, intellectual and/or behavioral challenges. The staff are also welcome to join the group and some are now members themselves.

When we first began, many of the group had had no formal Bible training. Now, we have gotten to the point that they understand the Gospel and are beginning to accept Christ as Savior.

There is interest in other clubs, but I need more teams to lead them. I am happy to train any CEF team to work with such diversity in the group. Mostly interested group leaders just need to love them.

Monique’s cancer has progressed, and she may be going Home to be with the Lord soon. We may need someone to take over this ministry. If, however, the Lord chooses to heal her, she could use help in starting more special needs Good News Clubs! Please let us know if you are interested in sharing the love of Jesus to those in our special needs community.

Pray for the hearts of these individuals to be open and understanding of the Gospel. Pray for Monique, and her mother Joan Lindsey, who is one of our founding committee members.

“Christ… of What?”

The GNC was singing “Stop/Go/Watch” and the teacher paused to explain the line “Go! And tell the story of the Christ of Calvary.”
“Calvary,” she explained, “is the name of the mountain where they put the cross when Jesus was crucified.”
“Oh!” said a 5th grade girl, “That makes so much more sense! I thought we were singing ‘Christ of CALORIES’, like when he fed all those people with bread and fish.”

Summer Opportunities

Have you ever prayed for the children in your neighborhood? Maybe this summer will be the year they hear about Jesus. Maybe YOU can make that happen by hosting a “5-Day Club” at your home!

A 5-Day Club typically runs from Monday-Friday, for about 1.5 hours in the morning or afternoon. Can you sacrifice that time in order to give your neighborhood children the chance to meet Jesus?

We will gladly provide you with curriculum and as much assistance as we can (depending on the dates and times you choose). Email our ministry coordinator at rperrotti@cefbuffalo.org.

Pray for many 5-Day Clubs to be held around the Greater Buffalo Area this summer.

Prayer Focus

One of our ministry goals in 2025 is to develop a powerful prayer team that will intercede for the children of Western New York. Our committee members Larry and Hope are excited to lead this charge! We are now looking for people to join the team. If you’re not already, please join our email list. We hope to start sending out special prayer lists for our Clubs and other ministries soon!

Ask the Lord if He wants you to join the CEF of GBA Prayer Team.

Winter 2024 Newsletter

Thank you for your support, CEF of GBA

Good News Clubs

Lake Shore Central School District Good News Club: Last year we had 30 students registered, between the three elementary schools of Lake Shore. This year, praise the Lord, we have almost doubled that!

Highland Elementary Good News Club– One of the GNC teachers is also the mother of two of our Highland students. She has used her influence to invite other children, and this year their club has 24 children registered. At least three of them have prayed to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior.

AJ Schmidt Elementary Good News Club– 16 students attend this Thursday club. Several of these are repeat attenders from last year, and it’s always nice when kids want to come back. We are also so glad for the new faces, and are praying for their salvations.

JT Waugh Elementary Good News Club– A special blessing this year is that this club was given their very own classroom! In the past they have met in the school cafeteria, auditorium, or library. This year the principal offered them a vacant classroom, so they are able hang posters on the walls, and leave supplies in cupboards. We thank the Lord for giving us such favor with the school administrators. There are 14 children registered at this club, and three have made professions of faith this year.

We would like to especially thank the Hilltop Baptist Church of Angola, and Pastor Travis Lewis, for sponsoring the AJ and Highland GNCs. Children are being reached for Christ because of your church’s prayer and financial support.

Pray for the continued attendance of these students, and that they will learn and grow.

Buffalo Public School District Good News Club: We have one club in a Buffalo public school – Highgate Heights, PS 80. One of the Highgate school teachers is also the GNC teacher, and has been so faithful with keeping this club running even through all the Covid and bussing challenges of the past years. This year she thought she would have a small club, because of the overall decreased attendance in the school’s afterschool programs. She is pleased to report, however, that they have 16 kids coming!

Pray for more Buffalo schools to open their doors to us.

Eden Central School District Good News Club: This is our second year back in Eden since the Covid re-start. We are not allowed to meet immediately after dismissal, the students must return to the school. As you can imagine, this is an obstacle for many parents. We did have four children register, but two have not yet attended, and a third now has some transportation issues. The teachers have been faithful, but having just one student can be discouraging.
One positive note is that the main teacher of this club has recruited two teen girls from her church to help her – potential GNC teachers!

Pray for this club to grow, and for a reversal of policy so we can meet at dismissal time.

Frontier Central School District. This district has again changed their rules, and told us that we cannot enter their buildings until after 6:00pm. After much prayer and consideration by the teachers…
Big Tree Elementary – will not restart.
Cloverbank Elementary – will meet from 6:00-7:00pm in the school, beginning Thursday, January 9.
Blasdell Elementary – will shift locations from the school to the Blasdell Community Church, which is located less than a block from the school. They will meet from 4:30-5:30pm beginning Thursday, January 16. Thank you, BCC, for opening your doors to host this club.

Pray for students to come to these Good News Clubs, to meet Jesus, and to have their lives transformed.

Hotel Club (For lack of a better name)

This past summer we had a wonderful opportunity to hold a one-day “Party Club” at a hotel that was turned into transitional housing for families in need. The Party Club was such a success that some of our committee members started to pray about the possibility of holding a weekly Good News Club here during the school year. God answered their prayers, and a Club started on Tuesday, Dec. 5.

They meet right in the hotel lobby and have had close to 30 children attend at once. Some parents also come to watch. Because of the location, many others have inadvertently attended a GNC as well 🙂 Some of the families in this facility have come from other countries, and it’s been fun to see, hear, and taste (!) the cultural differences each student brings to the Club.

Regardless of how these people got here or why, God loves each one of them. He sent His own Son to die for them, and we are so privileged to have this moment to share Truth with them.

Pray for the door to stay open for us to minister here. Pray for those who hear to understand and be converted.

Christmas GNC Stories

1. As the teacher explained why Jesus was born in stable and placed in a manger, a second-grade girl burst out, “That’s not fair! He deserved something very much more wonderful!”

2. As the teacher read the Christmas story directly from Luke 2, a fifth-grade boy, who hadn’t been paying much attention, looked up excitedly. “I know these words! They’re from the Charlie Brown Christmas story!”

Miracle in Our Midst

The Good News Club teacher had started defining the word “miracle”  when a 9-year-old girl raised her hand. “I know what a miracle is. The doctor told my mommy that she could never have a baby, but Mommy prayed that God would give her a miracle.” The teacher asked, “And did He?”
The beautiful little girl spread her arms out wide, and with a giant smile announced, “Here I am!”

New Giving Platform

This year we transitioned to a new online system for managing donations and contributions. Unfortunately this transition was neither quick nor easy.

We are working on sending out year-end giving receipts. If you donated to CEF of Greater Buffalo Area this past year, and do not receive a giving statement by the end of January  – or you receive a statement that contains errors – please send an email to admin@cefbuffalo.org with “2024 Donation” in the subject line. We will do our best to correct the oversight.

To give online, visit this page. Thank you to all who have given so generously to our mission this past year. We appreciate your sacrifice, and could not expand our ministry without your gifts. We look forward with confidence to what God will do through us in 2025!

Pray for the continued and increased funds to reach more children for Christ.
