Special Needs GNC

In our last newsletter, we highlighted a dear sister named Monique Lindsey, who had been a missionary to those with special needs in West Africa, until she received a cancer diagnosis. While undergoing chemo and radiation at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Monique started a Good News Club for people with special needs in Buffalo.

Monique did pass away since our last newsletter, and is now enjoying perfect health in Heaven. We are grateful for her example of service to the Lord, even in the darkest days of her life.

Hotel Club

The transitional housing facility where we held weekly GNCs closed down this past spring, and the residents were moved to other locations. We are so thankful that the Lord gave us this brief opportunity to minister. It was impossible to keep records, but we estimate that about 60 people heard the gospel – this includes children, teen siblings, parents/guardians, hotel staff, and even random people just hanging out in the lobby 🙂

The GNC teachers of this club are not letting this ministry die. They have been in contact with people in charge, and are trying to find a new location to minister. They have heard that several of the people who lived in this facility were moved to a hotel near the Buffalo Airport. May the Lord gives us favor to get in there with the Gospel. Many of these families are in crisis, and the solution is Jesus Christ.

Appreciation Dinner

Our second annual “GNC Worker Appreciation Dinner” was held on Friday, June 6. After a delicious meal, Good News Club teachers were asked to share testimonies of what had happened in their clubs during that school year. Here are some recaps:

· The Blasdell Elementary School club had no students last year, but the head GNC teacher faithfully prayed in the school library each week. This year, she decided to move the club off school property and into her church, which is just a few blocks from the school. Three children attended, and two of them professed faith in Jesus Christ for their salvation.

· One of the Lake Shore GNC teachers, who is legally blind, was looking for a way he could serve the Lord with his physical limitations. He praised the Lord for this opportunity to minister inside the schools, and for the other GNC teachers who are willing to give him rides to and from the schools each week. The other teachers at the club told how this man is a great influence on the children who attend.

· A Lake Shore bus driver told how he often overhears kids who attend GNC tell their friends on the bus what they have learned in class, and even share the gospel.

· One boy didn’t want to attend the AJ Schmidt club at the beginning of the year, and had a bad attitude. He kept coming though, and finally understood the gospel and trusted Christ as Savior. His whole attitude changed, and he finished the school year as one of their best students.

· A few children from the same family attended GNC at Cloverbank Elementary a few years ago, put their faith in Christ, and started attending the sponsor church. They brought more and more family members, and now 11 people from this family attend the church. This past school year, two of these girls were old enough to become helpers back at the Clover-bank Good News Club.
